A Day at the Beach

There was beautiful water this morning. The sun was sparkling on the waves as A built a sandcastle and played in the water with his cousins. He tried mightily to keep the waves from destroying his castle, but they eventually beat it down.

B and I went into town and walked along the dock. We ate lunch at a little whole in the wall place that had great fresh seafood. There was a huge, brightly colored parrot in a cage on the porch with us. Mexican Muzak was playing, and the parrot did a neck-rolling dance to the beat that kept us amused.

In a craft mall, I found a handmade necklace with this Bible verse:

I have engraved you on the palms of my hands. Isaiah 49:16 Here is the context:

Isaiah 49
15 "Can a mother forget the baby at her breast
and have no compassion on the child she has borne?
Though she may forget,
I will not forget you!
16 See, I have engraved you on the palms of my hands;
your walls are ever before me.

I love that verse. (I wish I could find a necklace with it on!) I only discovered it when someone wrote it in a sympathy card after Iain died. I'm not even religious, but the image resonated with me very deeply. It's something I came back to again and again in those first difficult months.
