Parallel Universes

I read a Scientific American article last week about the new theories behind parallel universes. Unfortunately, it is not online, so I can't refer you to it. Apparently, theoretical physicists have been discussing this for years. There may be an infinite number of universes parallel to our own, created from quantum level differences. It sounds a bit science-fictionish, but Heinlein did predict the waterbed.

I like to think of a parallel universe existing where W is still alive. He is still writing poems, playing Dungeons and Dragons, and complaining about school. He has aced the SAT test and struggling with IB exams and finishing his community service. He is giving his best friend rides to school. He has been to his cardiologist, and she has given him whatever he needs to prevent him dying suddenly.

The physicists say these universes are in another dimension, less than a hair's breadth away. I wish W could visit from there.

I loved that article
and agree with you about the philosophical implications, especially with regard to loved ones.

The way I read it, the dimension where he's acing the SAT not only might exist, but given the numbers, it must exist ...

I've thought about that article often since originally reading it.

Peace (in all the infinite universes)
