Numbing, tiring day

I went to my professor's funeral today. It was very hard. I was glad I had many friends there. She was active in her Catholic Church, so a Mass was said for her this morning. It was a lovely service (I'm not Catholic so I was not familiar with all the ritual). Her daughter did one of the Scripture readings. Her voice was clear and beautiful, and it reminded me of her mother. Her mother was known for her beautiful voice, but this last year one of her vocal cords became paralyzed and she lost the beautiful sound.

I looked over some of the last emails she sent me. Once she became very ill, I did not speak to her except by email. But she did take the time to write me as I left and went to my new job. Once again, she was very encouraging at a time when she was in pain. I hope that I can live up to the many examples she set as a teacher, scientist and as a human being.

She was a great person then. Sad she's gone but the funeral sounds like it was a great tribute and not so sad.

So sorry that you have lost such a inspirational person from your life, and that the day's grief, too, was difficult. She sounds like she lived a commendable life and was a wonderful person and I understand why you'd feel as you write that you do. Now you have another friend in Heaven.
