A new year

It's been over a year since I posted in LJ. I have a permanent account, so I think my journal  was just waiting for me to come out of the weirdness I've been in for a long time. Or maybe my posting is the weirdness and then I will go back to being as I was---unable to express my feelings in written form. Frozen at the point at which my thoughts are at the door of my internal home because it is cold and scary outside.

My little boy is 17 today.  His big brother did not live past the age of 16, but he would be 21 if he were alive.

Thanks--what have you been up to?

Oh, dear...well, long story:
The Bad: I lost my job, my mom passed away.
The Good: I'm back in the Metroplex, which suits me much better than Killeen, and I've made some very good friends, including our mutual acquaintances in Allen :)

I so sorry to hear about your mom. I hope you have found another job or have good prospects. When I have more energy to be around people perhaps we can get together with the Allenites.

it's good to see you here.

Thanks. I hope I post a little more often. What have you been doing?

not a whole lot. it's been a hard 6 months or so in that my older son moved to seattle last summer and my younger son went off to college this fall. i haven't been sure at all of who i am any more or what i'm supposed to do next. not unusual, maybe, but it takes time and work to figure things out!

I think it is very natural that life changes cause re-evaluations. I went through that after Will died. I also am going through that now because of health issues. Confusion and turmoil can result and an inner struggle to redefine one's life and one's energy. You had so much love energy to give the kids, you have to dial it back, so now what do you do with what is left?

I have wondered how you are.

Welcome back.

Hey! how is your life? Are you still teaching science?
Jan. 15th, 2009 11:25 pm (UTC)
I am! For a few more years, anyway. :)

I finished my Master of Arts in Teaching with a major in science education at UTD in August. Next month I begin work on a PhD in science education via a distance learning program through Curtin University of Technology in Perth, Australia. I'm stoked about it.

This school year has been tough since my workload is heavier than most--I'm teaching 7 classes instead of 6. But my kids are good, so for that I am grateful.

More later...I'm off to professionally develop! Got an online workshop to sit for. :)

Congratulations! I am always impressed that teachers can juggle so many classes and lesson plans. Andrew has decided to forgo IB and is attending Richland Collegiate High School. It's a magnet school based out of Richland community college. He takes all his classes at the community college and then graduates high school with abt 60 hours worth of college credit. He loves it because it is so different from the typical high school thing. It is more laid back and nurturing than Plano, and yet it is still quite challenging.

The class size is limited to 200, so he has the advantage of a big school without the disadvantage of being a number.

I am impressed with the PhD work and that you can do that on top of your teaching. You can be Ms. Science!

That is great that he's able to participate in that program! He'll be able to finish college in half the time with only half the expense, which I bet you all are excited about. :)

I'll be more impressed with my PhD work when I'm done...I start February 9. I'm apprehensive but excited.

Re: so good to see you!
That's so nice of you to say! I have missed me, too. At least the part of me that knows how to communicate in my personal life.
