School haze

It’s 8 pm, and the temperature is a balmy 103. I feel cold water is in my near future. I am supposed to be cleaning up all the debris surrounding my bed so that the mattress deliverers can make it into my bedroom without machetes. But it’s going very slowly.

Earlier today I made it up to school and worked in my new classroom some more. I took some pictures so that I could think more about how I wanted it to look.

***Time out to rush to the drugstore and pick up medicine for A.’s canker sore.***

It was 109 in my car. Bleh.

I found that several of the experienced teachers had been up at school all week getting their classrooms ready. They have to spend most of their days in in-service meetings next week, so they won’t have much time to work in their rooms before the Meet the Teacher Night on next Thursday. It drives me crazy that the districts get so picky about how many days we are “officially” working when so many teachers work way beyond the official days.

I can’t stop being excited about my room, though. I have a TV set and VCR, a closet AND a big storage cabinet, and the back wall of the room is all drawers. I have plenty of outlets, too. The very sweet custodian put handles on most of my desk drawers. I wish I had a key so that I could get in there this weekend.
