The figure is of St. Michael the Archangel, who was famous for fighting a dragon. "And there was war in heaven. Michael and his angels fought against the dragon, and the dragon and his angels fought back." Revelation 12:7. According to this Scripture, the dragon was the devil, but I like to think that St. Michael might have enjoyed a game of Dungeons and Dragons with W and his friends. Also, St. Michael is the patron saint of the dying.

The "platinum flame" reference is to a joke within our family. W, being the oldest child, naturally thought that A was favored and got all the attention. He began calling his brother the "golden" child. So I began calling W the "platinum" child, since he was just as precious to us. I think W enjoyed the joke.

Picture of the tall view showing the vase. The funeral home supplies the first vase of silk flowers. We can then add anything we like.

Thanks! My husband worked hard on designing it. He was so upset at first, he couldn't help with the funeral arrangements. So I am glad he spent time designing the headstone.

Oooh...I really like it. I've been noticing the headstones with the vases, because we still need to get one for my mother-in-law and father-in-law.

So well done, and so appropriate. W. would approve.
I will go see it in person, soon.

Yes, that's right. It was a party for your PhD. How much has happened since then!
